As Threats Become Worse, Healthcare Firms Hire Cybersecurity Professionals
On average, a healthcare breach happened once a day last year. More than 27 million patient records were affected according to a report from Protenus. These breaches are not inexpensive to deal with, either.
Many healthcare organizations were found in violation of HIPAA and had to pay fines. A Miami non-profit paid a $5.5 million settlement in a HIPAA case, while a hospital in Dallas has to pay $3.2 million.
The ongoing threats and high stakes have caused many healthcare firms to turn to cybersecurity professionals. They are treating privacy and security as top priorities this year, even with the huge challenge it brings.
